ABC Music Wins Best Independent Classical, Jazz and Country Albums at the 11th AIR Awards

ABC Music took home three Awards at the 11th AIR Awards, held in Adelaide last night.

AIR (The Australian Independent Record Labels Association) coordinate the Awards each year to celebrate Australia’s best independent recording artists. The Awards cover genres from jazz to classical, blues and roots, country, hip hop, hard rock/punk and dance electronica.

Guitarist Slava Grigoryan won Best Independent Classical Album for his ABC Classics album Bach Cello SuitesVolume I. Recorded on the baritone guitar and released in November 2016, the album spent a record-breaking 13 weeks at number one in the Classical Chart.

James Morrison and Don Burrows took home the award forBest Independent Jazz Album for In Good Company. The album is the last by Burrows, who is regarded as one of Australia’s finest musicians, playing here alongside his legendary pupil.

The album title was inspired by Burrow’s favourite saying “You’re only as good as the company you keep.” “In his company,” Morrison says, “I’ve been at my best.”

Best Independent Country Albumwent to Henry Wagons for his 2016 release After What I Did Last Night, his debut solo album.As well as being a talented musician, Wagons is also a TV and radio broadcaster, and was named one of the Top 100 Most Influential People in Melbourne  by The Age newspaper.

Natalie Waller, General Manager of ABC Music, was delighted with the wins.
