Tiwi - Two Cultures, One God
From Bathurst Island, 80km north of Darwin, a Eucharist service in the Roman Catholic tradition integrating Aboriginal traditional elements and conventional Catholic liturgical forms. The service is staged under the trees in the town of Nguiu, with the Rev Father Philip Hoy. A Tiwi choir sings, and communion begins with a traditional dance by Tiwi women. The service is held in association with the community's Australian Rules football grand final in which six teams compete. Made with assistance from ATSIC.
