Message Stick - Spoken Word

Four Poets take part in an intimate recital sharing their works and experiences as Indigenous People. Traditionally Indigenous people are story tellers; it's their way of passing on History and Culture from one generation to the next. Today there are many Indigenous poets writing and performing their works as a means of self expression and as a way of recording contemporary history. To celebrate Poetry Week, Message Stick invited just a few of them to the Vanguard, in the happening Sydney suburb of Newtown to share some of their poems.
From South Australia Ali Cobby Eckermann, Will Jarrett, aka Wire MC from the North Coast of New South Wales, Lionel Fogerty from Brisbane and Aunty Kathy Mills all the way from Darwin. They were all excited to be a part of the gathering and very honoured to speak on Gadigal Country.
