Message Stick - Giving Voice
Rima Tamou returned to the Northern Territory to hear fresh voices on The Intervention. He begins this report in the community of Mutitjulu, in the shadow of Uluru, where it all began by speaking to poet and songwriter, Bob Randall. From there he travels to Alice Springs and hears the opinion of internationally acclaimed film director, Warwick Thornton and outspoken Yuendumu woman, Bess Nungarrayi Price.
Next, Rima Tamou witnesses the defiance of the people of Ampilatwatja who have "walked off" their community in protest at the lack of housing and poor maintenance which has allowed raw sewerage to run down their main street. Finally, he ends this report by speaking to actor and traditional owner, Tom E. Lewis who again pleads for governments to listen to communities to find out what they want and need and explains how his community, Beswick is finding sources of funding independent of government.
