George Negus Tonight - David Williamson
Many would argue that few have contributed more to our thinking about ourselves than David Williamson. Back in his early days, the social satire of his plays struck a resounding chord with his audiences. In fact, they rolled in the aisles, literally laughing at themselves, and they've never stopped.
Clearly an astute observer with a savage wit and a remarkably accurate ear for dialogue, he's always managed to invoke scarily recognisable Australian characters. Consistent, prodigious and consciously provocative, David's amazing body of work has brought him both local and international fame and success. But he's remained here in Australia offering us his take, warts and all, on life, love, politics and the pursuit of happiness, Australian-style.
A few years ago David and Kristen, his fellow writer/wife, moved from city life in Sydney to the warmer wilds of Queensland's Noosa. Mr Williamson talks about himself and how he became a writer in the first place.
