Four Corners – Shark Alarm

Geoff Thompson investigates the reasons behind the rise in shark attacks on beaches on North Coast NSW, WA and around Australia. Thompson reports on effectiveness and dangers to marine life from the widespread use of shark nets and drum lines on Australia’s east coast, the shark culling trial in WA, the implementation of the eco-shark barrier at Coogee Beach in Sydney and the plans for the eco-shark barrier to be installed at Lighthouse Beach in Ballina, NSW. Thompson speaks to shark attack victims and witnesses.

On the beaches around Ballina, on the north coast of NSW, that fear is palpable. With nine attacks, one of them fatal, in the last 12 months, people are asking why and demanding action. Filmed around Australia, Shark Alarmfeatures extraordinary tales of survival.
