The Fifth Continent
A cultural anthology which explores from a personal and subjective point of view the journey of immigrants to Australia since World War II. Between the end of the Second World War and the late Fifties Australia accepted millions of European and British migrants. The emigres came by the shipload to a new homeland, we knew little about their journey to our doorstep and they often knew little about us. It is accepted that this period marked the beginning of great social change after which our country was never going to be the same again. Based on insightful personal interviews, archive footage and dramatic re-enactments, this documentary traces a handful of journeys to a then unknown island...the Fifth Continent.
