Compass - Carrying the Cross
The world's largest youth event, World Youth Day, is coming to Sydney in July. This story follows a small team of Australian Catholic pilgrims rallying young people from across Australia to the big event. Around half-a-million young Catholics from across the globe are coming. It will be Pope Benedict XVI's first visit to Australia. Since July 2007 six young Australian Catholics have been travelling around the country armed with a large wooden cross. Their mission is as old as the first apostles': to draw people to God ...and WYD. Compass joined the pilgrims for one leg of their odyssey, from the Twelve Apostles on the Victorian coast to the outback plains of Hay in western NSW. We witness the ups and downs of the cross's journey, and ask whether it has the power to transform young hearts and minds, and bring them into the church.
