We Can Be Heroes

About

Comedian Chris Lilley plays five "Australian of the Year" nominees in this mock-u-mentary series that looks at society's obsessive search for heroes.

In his various guises as a charity minded schoolgirl, a housewife turned elite athlete, a deluded policeman, an aspiring Chinese actor and hearing-impaired twin farm boys, Chris unearths the unintended humour of these characters as they make their pitch in this annual public popularity contest.

The absurdity of their goals, their misplaced self-importance and the earnestness of their delivery, is richly comic ground from which Chris extracts maximum laughs and major insights into contemporary attitudes toward race, gender and the meaning of success.

Comedian Chris Lilley won Rose d'Or in 2006 in the Best Performer category for Male Comedy Performance for We Can Be Heroes.
