THE REMARKABLE TRUE STORY OF WWII CAMERAMAN DAMIEN PARER
Starring Matthew Le Nevez (Brock, Offspring), Parer’s War is the true story of World War II frontline cameraman, Damien Parer, whose work won Australia’s first Oscar.
1942: Darwin has been bombed and 29-year-old cinematographer Damien Parer is filming Australian troops as they fight the Japanese on the deadly razorback ridges of New Guinea. His desperate efforts to return to the battlefield to capture what he believed was the ‘truth’ of war were thwarted by his own government. Caught between two worlds, his own personal demons almost cost him the woman he loved.
Based on the lives of real people and events, Parer’s War captures the life of one of Australia’s most famous war photographers.
