ABC Commercial reports in from Avant Première

ABC Commercial’s Sales Manager Europe & Worldwide Formats, Katherine McMillan, has completed the three day online performance, music & media market, Avant Première.

McMillan reported a buzz around this year’s market, as arts and music content buyers from around the world showed a heightened interest in new arts programming. McMillan said “The ABC has increased support of the arts during the pandemic with domestic funding and increasing the performance catalogue. We’ve seen an incredible demand from audiences looking to satisfy their love of theatre and the arts.”

After recently finalising several large arts content deals with broadcasters in Japan, China and the USA, ABC Commercial has increased its arts slate with two new high-end documentaries ahead of the market.

The first is the spectacularly beautiful Firestarter - The Story of Bangarra (HD 1x90’ & 1x60’) which tracks the pivotal year approaching the 30th anniversary of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander performing arts company, Bangarra. Firestarter tells the story of the Bangarra through the eyes of their long standing and charismatic artistic director, Stephen Page.

And We Danced (HD 3x60’) explores the history of The Australian Ballet - internationally recognised, The Australian Ballet constantly inspires, delights and challenges audiences through powerful ground-breaking performances. And We Danced traces the company’s dramatic journey from that very first performance through to landmark events such as Rudolf Nureyev’s Don Quixote, Maina Gielgud’s The Sleeping Beauty and Graeme Murphy’s Swan Lake.

ABC Commercial holds worldwide distribution rights for And We Danced and Firestarter: The Story of Bangarra.
