The Sapphires at Cannes Film Festival

The Sapphires at Cannes Film FestivalCongratulations to the new Australian feature film The Sapphires which recently had its world premiere in this year’s Cannes Film Festival’s Official Selection.

Set in 1968, it is inspired by the remarkable true story of four talented singers from a remote Aboriginal mission who shot to fame as Australia’s answer to The Supremes. The film follows the group from Sydney to Vietnam where they perform their first real gig – entertaining the troops in Vietnam.

ABC Library Sales proudly supplied historical scene-setting footage of Sydney in the 60s to Goalpost Pictures for use in this film.

The Sapphires is directed by acclaimed actor/theatre director Wayne Blair and produced by Goalpost Pictures Australia’s Rosemary Blight and Kylie du Fresne. It will be released in Australia on 9th August.
