ABC Music Receives 12 nominations in 2014 ARIA Awards Fine Arts and Artisan categories
We are delighted to announce that ABC Music has received 12 nominations in the Fine Arts and Artisan categories of this year’s ARIA Awards.
ABC Music recordings are nominated in the Best Classical, Best Jazz, Best World Music, and Best Original Soundtrack / Cast / Show Album categories. Virginia Read is once again nominated for Engineer of the Year, an award which she won in 2013 – the first female and the first classical engineer to do so.
The nominated albums showcase the breadth and quality of ABC Music’s output. The list of soloists reads like a Who’s Who of some of the finest artists performing in Australia today: William Barton, Paul Grabowsky, Lior, Emma Matthews, Jane Rutter, Joseph Tawadros and Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu. They are joined by the brilliant Baroque group Latitude 37 and four of our nation’s finest symphony orchestras, with all of whom ABC Music has an ongoing relationship: the Sydney, Melbourne and Tasmanian Symphony Orchestras and the Australian World Orchestra.
Natalie Waller, General Manager of ABC Music, commented:
“We’re delighted that ABC Music is once again so strongly represented in the nominations for the ARIA Fine Arts and Artisan categories. We’re privileged to work with some of Australia’s finest musicians from across the musical spectrum, from classical to world and from jazz to pop, and we offer our warm congratulations to the many nominated artists.
“It’s particularly pleasing that contemporary Australian music is so strongly represented: world-premiere recordings of works by Paul Stanhope, Nigel Westlake, William Barton, Joseph Tawadros and Paul Grabowsky all feature in the nominated albums.”
The winners will be announced at a ceremony on Tuesday 7 October at the Art Gallery of NSW, Sydney.
