ABC Commercial announces exclusive rights deal with Netflix for BBC comedy ‘Toast of London’

ABC Commercial today announced the BAFTA award winning comedy Toast of London will become exclusively available to stream on leading subscription video on-demand service Netflix from Friday, 1st July 2016.

The deal includes all three seasons of the critically acclaimed British comedy starring Matt Berry (The IT Crowd) as struggling middle-aged actor Steven Toast, meaning the third series of the program will make its territory premiere on the streaming service, before airing anywhere else in Australia or New Zealand.

The announcement comes as over 200 hours of ABC Commercial distributed content, including 348 episodes across 30 different titles, arrive on Netflix throughout June and July this year.

The Bondi Hipsters’ irreverent sketch show Soul Mates, five fresh David Attenborough documentaries and new content from The Wiggles all recently arrived on the service.

In addition to new content from Sir David Attenborough, a number of other documentary series have also made their local Netflix debut this winter, including 72 Cutest Animals, Tattoo Tales and the acclaimed documentary on the private life of Paul Hogan, Hanging with Hoges, hosted by Australian actor Shane Jacobson.

British cult classics Black Books, Shameless and Queer As Folk are also now available on the platform, along with a number of Australian comedy series including The Moodys, The Strange Calls and the darkly humorous criminal drama series The Straits.

In addition to new content from The Wiggles, a host of celebrated children’s television product will also be added to Netflix’s Australian and New Zealand catalogues, including new episodes of Pingu, Mofy, Sesame Street and the popular kid’s series Dinosaur Train.

“ABC Commercial is pleased to further deepen our partnership with Netflix, bringing local audiences more great content from Australia and around the world,” said Jessica Ellis, Head of ABC Video Entertainment & Distribution. “With compelling content like Toast of London, more great David Attenborough documentaries and the hilarious Soul Mates all arriving on Netflix this year, subscribers have a lot to look forward to.”

The 30 new ABC Commercial distributed titles are set to become available to Australian and New Zealand Netflix subscribers throughout June and July, with many, including Soul Mates, The Straits and The Moodys all now currently available on the platform.

The first three series of Toast of London will become available on Friday, 1st July, along with a range of other adult drama and children’s television content.
