ABC appoints new International CEO

The ABC has a very proud tradition in international broadcasting. Radio Australia has provided comprehensive coverage into the Asia Pacific region for more than 70 years, the Corporation has delivered a credible Australia Network for over a decade and our international development work strengthens media organisations and their information delivery methods across 20 countries in the region.

Today the Corporation builds on this commitment by announcing the appointment of Lynley Marshall, in the role of CEO, ABC International.

Her appointment follows an extensive international search to fill the position after the retirement of Murray Green. The ABC attracted a very strong field of candidates from around the world and within the Corporation.

Lynley Marshall said: “We have the opportunity now to develop an integrated international media strategy - capitalising on the strengths of the ABC’s television, radio and news services. I’m honoured to be joining the International team at this exciting time as we look to extend the reach and scope of ABC content into international markets.”

Lynley is one of the Corporation’s most experienced leaders, transforming ABC Commercial’s operations during a challenging period in the retail sector. ABC Shops have been revitalised with a new retail concept more focused on showcasing exclusive ABC product and content. New partnerships have cemented the Corporation’s standing as a leading brand in publishing and new revenue streams have been secured through the development of the ABC’s shop online and other digital content initiatives such as Reading Eggs.

Prior to her role in ABC Commercial, Lynley led the Corporation’s then New Media and Digital Services team in creating many innovative projects including the ABC’s first broadband and mobile services and the establishment of the its first digital television channels.

Managing Director Mark Scott said: “International broadcasting is a central part of the ABC Charter and with Lynley in this role, we will be well placed to take advantage of new media platforms, expanding Australia’s reach in radio, television, online and mobile. Lynley has the knowledge and experience to identify other opportunities to take existing ABC content into international markets.

Lynley will bring to the job a clear strategic focus and a track record of achieving significant organisational change.”
