After her father dies, feisty Melbourne teenager Rhyll Mereweather discovers a family property and estranged grandfather she never knew existed. She moves to the run-down family property on the north coast of New South Wales (Australia) with her grandfather and together they begin a new life of rural adventure. She realises that she must work hard to save the farm and is shocked to discover much more about her past than she bargained for. 'Pastures of the Blue Crane' is an Australian novel by Hesba Fay Brinsmead, published in 1964. The novel won the Children's Book of the Year Award: Older Readers in 1965. It was adapted for television in 1969
