Message Stick - Wiradjuri

For many Aboriginal People, the year 1788 began a process of disintegration, not only of our culture but of our very existence. Today, as the traditional custodians of this land we continue the battle in the High Court and out in the communities in a defiant attempt to get back to much of what we have lost.
But amidst this turmoil a revival has begun. People are reclaiming their culture through language. Stan Grant Snr, a Wiradjuri elder and John Rudder a friend and anthropologist, under guidance of the Wiradjuri Council of Elders are setting about re-introducing the Wiradjuri language. The language group is not just open to Aboriginal people but to anyone interested in learning an Indigenous Language.
This story shows that it is possible to reclaim cultural languages and that it's impact can be just as meaningful today as it was thousands of years ago.
