Message Stick - Finding Our Destiny

Finding Our Destiny profiles the first woman Aboriginal candidate for the 2003 NSW State Elections Linda Burney.

Burney is a fesity, talented outspoken Koori woman who initiated and organised the 2000 Sydney Bridge Walk for Reconciliation, and is now (as at 2002) head of the NSW Dept of Aboriginal Affairs.

In Finding Our Destiny, Linda reveals she was raised by her non-Aboriginal Great Aunt and Uncle - who she cared for in their later years. Her mother died without telling her who her Aboriginal father was, but, in her mid-twenties she met him and her extended family.

The film shows her strong community roots, her great interest in education, her vision, humour and immense popularity among her own people and with white power brokers.
