George Negus Tonight - Mirka Mora
Mirka Mora has been a part of the local scene for more than 50 years. A survivor of the Holocaust, Mirka wanted to live somewhere, she says, where war was unlikely. And so in 1951, she uprooted her life in postwar Paris and made a fresh start here in Australia.
Having looked death in the face in wartime Europe, her desire to live life to the full was palpable. Not exactly the norm of the day in conservative Melbourne. But her bohemian approach to life captured the imagination of like-minded artists, and pretty soon, she found herself at the social and creative hub of the city.
