Four Corners - Whale Wars, The

It was billed as a "victory for the whales". The International Whaling Commission meeting in Korea had fended off Japan's push for a return to commercial whaling. A triumphant Australia had led the opposition. But Japan has warned that it is far from beaten. It insists that it will press ahead with plans to dramatically increase the number and species of whales it kills under the loophole of "scientific research".
And in the fading minutes of the forum, Japanese representatives declared defiantly that they would not back off on commercial whaling. They would be back in greater force next year - with more votes from more pro-whaling countries.
